Now offering Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me @ whitney@somatichealingtouch.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Ketamine‑Assisted Psychotherapy combines low‑dose ketamine with guided psychotherapy to enhance insight, emotional processing, and neuroplasticity. The ketamine session creates a window of increased cognitive flexibility, while therapy helps integrate the experience into meaningful change.

Ketamine blocks NMDA receptors, triggering downstream effects in the glutamate system and increasing brain‑derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This promotes neuroplasticity—your brain’s ability to form new neural connections—which can support rapid improvements in mood and emotional processing.

Research and clinical practice show benefits for:

  • Treatment‑resistant depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • PTSD
  • Bipolar depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Burnout, existential distress, and personal growth work (even without a formal diagnosis)

Most people describe the experience as peaceful, introspective, dreamlike, or gently psychedelic. Some feel lighter, more open, or emotionally connected. Dissociation, shifts in time perception, or spiritual‑type experiences are common and typically well‑tolerated.

Ketamine is considered one of the safest anesthetics when administered in a controlled medical setting. During treatment, clinicians monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels. Side effects—such as nausea, dizziness, or elevated blood pressure—are usually short‑lived and resolve within hours.

Some people feel relief within hours of their first session, while others notice steady improvement after several treatments. Many protocols involve 6 sessions over 2–3 weeks, with optional booster sessions later.

In a supervised medical context, ketamine is not considered addictive. Recreational misuse is different from controlled therapeutic use.

Infusion clinics typically provide ketamine only. KAP integrates preparation, guided support, and post‑session integration therapy, which helps clients make meaning of the experience and apply insights to daily life.

Yes. Because ketamine can temporarily affect coordination and judgment, you must have a trusted person drive you home and stay with you for several hours.

Most insurance plans do not yet cover ketamine treatment.
